In the pursuit of a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, every choice we make matters.
At WATERROWER | NOHRD, we take pride in crafting fitness equipment that not only enhances your well-being but also contributes to a healthier planet. One crucial aspect of our commitment to sustainability lies in the hardwood we use for our equipment.
Renewable Hardwood Sources
All the wood used in WATERROWER | NOHRD products comes from carefully managed, renewable sources in the USA and Europe. This ensures that the rate of harvesting is balanced with the rate of regrowth, maintaining the health and vitality of the forests. By choosing hardwood from these responsible sources, we support sustainable forestry practices that contribute to the overall well-being of the environment.
Wood for WaterRower production is sourced from forests in the Appalachian Mountain range of North America. This wood comes exclusively from members of the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Trade Association (AHMI). Thanks to the modern forest management techniques employed by our responsible suppliers, a billion trees have been added to the region since 2007, with 300,000 acres of Appalachian forest added in the past 25 years. That’s nearly 33 acres a day. To put it another way, more wood than it takes to make a WaterRower grows back every second in the mountains.
An average-sized oak tree absorbs 165kg of carbon dioxide each year.
The Carbon Capture Story
Wood has an incredible ability to capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and convert it into oxygen while storing carbon in their fibres. An average-sized oak tree absorbs 165kg of carbon dioxide each year. This carbon remains sequestered in the wood even after the tree is harvested, making it a natural and effective carbon sink.
As such, wooden products made with timber that is from sustainably managed forests serve to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
Longevity and Durability
One of the key features of hardwood is its durability. The robust nature of hardwood allows our fitness equipment to stand the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This longevity is not only cost-effective for our customers but also plays a significant role in promoting sustainability. The longer a product lasts, the less demand there is for new resources.
Responsible Manufacturing
WATERROWER | NOHRD is committed to minimizing its carbon footprint throughout the entire manufacturing process. We implement energy-efficient practices in our production facilities to further reduce our environmental impact. Measures include the extensive use of solar panels to provide power. During the winter months, heat comes from bio-mass furnaces fueled by production waste.
